SWRT in the community. Introduction Round Table has set a healthy precedent of funding local charities and good causes in the Saffron Walden vicinity. As we approach our 50th year, we are very proud of almost half a century of active participation in our local community. We have financed, assisted and donated both our time and funds raised to a variety of diverse local good causes. We typically consider applications for assistance in our community on a monthly basis. In 2006 over 50 donations, pledges and contributions were made to the approximate value of £55,000. A few causes that we have supported over the years include; Medics, Saffron Screen, Addenbrooke Neo-Natal Unit, numerous sporting clubs and youth groups to name but a few. How we raised the money Typically funds are raised with the support of donations from the local community and sponsorship from businesses. This is normally a direct result of an event we have organised for the town. Fireworks Our annual firework extravaganza every November takes place on the 14 acre public common in the centre of town. This is a free event which has a regular annual turnout of approx. 10,000 people. Funds are raised via sponsorship and public donations on the night. Carnival Triannually we organise an 8 day festival of music, arts and entertainments. Commencing with a town procession that regularly has 150 participants and featuring through the week, music catering for a diverse, eclectic and cosmopolitan range of tastes. Funds are raised via bar sales, sponsorship, donations and ticket sales. Carnival 2005 raised nearly £40,000. Our Regular Commitments St Raphael Club for the Physically Disabled. We have for over 15 years provided transport to and from the St Raphels club for it's membership and will continue to do so whilst they require our assistance. Christmas Parcels. Every December after liasing with Social Services and local Welfare Officers, we deliver a Christmas parcel full of food and provisions to those most in need of our support. In December 2006 over 120 parcels were distributed. Santa's Sleigh. The annual Late Night Shopping jamboree in Saffron Walden's Historic Market Square just would be the same without the presence of St Nick himself! Round Table takes it upon themselves to ensure that Santa makes a festive appearance bringing Christmas cheer to the seasonal shoppers and the many excited youngsters.
